Cutting edge design and technology using a traditional material – solid oak – is represented in a new Contraforma dining furniture range. The use of 100% solid oak bonded in a novel and innovative way is a key feature of the new products.
Off - cuts of oak were combined together to create a new one-piece product. The key to the product is the use of many small pieces of natural solid oak – individually weak, but collectively strong. Two techniques are then combined. First the wood is cut across, rather than with the grain of the tree. Then, the individual pieces are glued vertically, reflecting the natural state of the tree, rather than using traditional „horizontal“ construction techniques. Cross-grained wood provides 7 times greater strength and stability to the table compared with solid oak furniture constructed using traditional techniques. Using this technology the furniture range becomes virtually unbreakable and incredibly durable.
This unitary approach to construction means the product has complete structural integrity. The constituent wooden parts become a single wooden sculpture – there simply aren’t any parts which need to be fixed separately using screws and other fasteners.
The raw energy and natural state of the growing trees is released when the individual wooden elements are bonded in the vertical. As a result touching the smooth surface of the products provides an unforgettable experience.
Compared with traditional solid oak furniture this environmentally-friendly product combines crisp lines with a very light appearance. The unique warmth and texture of the wood is highlighted in the new range. Square pieces of oak combine to create unique patterns of the flat surfaces of the chairs and tables. Each dining table requires more than 2000 small pieces of oak and each chair approximately 250 pieces.
The collection currently consists of both dining chairs and tables (available in different sizes) and bar-table with matching bar-chairs.
